Pamela Anderson appeared in Barb Wire playing Barbara Rose Kopetski, which was later claimed by some sources to be Anderson's real name, although it is not. The movie, a thinly veiled futuristic remake of Casablanca, was not a commercial success. During filming, she had a real barb wire tattoo put on her left upper arm as an alternative to having it painted on by make-up artists every day, but had it removed in 2016.
Pamela's paternal grandfather, Herman Anderson, was Finnish, and was the son of Juho Hyytiainen, who had changed his name to Anderson, and Rachel Evelyn Solmie, with roots in Hyytiälä Alapiha, Saarijärvi. Pamela's other ancestry includes English, German, and Northern Irish. Her maternal grandmother's family, the Friesens, were ethnic Germans from Chortitza Colony, a Mennonite colony in Russia.
