The film Desperate Hours with Mickey Rourke was originally slated to be directed by Christopher Cain, who dropped out of the project in pre-production. Then William Friedkin was hired to replace Cain, but later quit and accepted the directing job on The Guardian. Mickey Rourke suggested Michael Cimino, based on their previous experiences working on Heaven’s Gate and Year of the Dragon.
