Design has different connotations in different fields. In some cases, the direct construction of an object (as in pottery, engineering, management, coding, and graphic design) is also considered to use design thinking.
In the performance piece “One more kilometre” by British art duo John Wood and Paul Harrison, a beautiful stream of flying paper is created using a belt sander and a giant stack of copy paper (video). The paper, if stacked end to end, would cover a distance of one kilometer (hence the name). “One more kilometre” was on display in March at Kulturhuset in Stockholm.
John Wood & Paul Harrison One more kilometre
In this collaborative work with John Wood that prods at the relationship between the human figure and architecture, Paul Harrison held down a sanding machine on a huge pile of paper and sent the sheets — measuring a kilometre in all — scuttling across the floor.
