‧‧‧ One of 810James Dean moved into a fifth-floor walkup at 19 West 68th Street, while he was cast in starring roles in “East of Eden”, “Rebel Without A Cause” and “Giant”. The studio apartment was miniscule, with just enough room for a bed, built in desk and a hot plate.

Nineteen West 68th Street is just one of many New York sites associated with Dean, who lived in the city from 1951 until he was swept off to Hollywood in 1954 by Elia Kazan to star in East of Eden. There is also the Iroquois Hotel in midtown, where Dean lived before moving to the apartment, as well as the DuMont Barber shop, where he got his locks trimmed.
