The weapon of choice for Jack Bauer was again his SIG Sauer P228 pistol. He had one in his drawer at home, but did not take it with him to CTU Los Angeles. Jack Bauer used the P228 up to and including Day 2. It was available to all certified agents depending on availability (with regards to that of the Glock 17, Beretta 92 and Heckler & Koch MP5K) and personal preference. It was among the most commonly used handguns of law enforcement worldwide. Appropriate silencing equipment was available.
In contrast to the P226, the P228 is manufactured exclusively in the 9 x 19 mm caliber; its sister in the .40 S&W / .357 SIG is sold as the P229. User of the P229 in caliber .357 SIG is for example the “US Secret Service”, “US Air Marshalls”, “Texas Ranger”, in caliber .40 S&W the Coast Guard (“Coast Guard”), “Navy CIS” etc. The controls SIG-Sauer are typically located on the left side of the weapon, the material used is identical to the P226, more on this in the corresponding article. In the P228, the magazines with capacities of 15 or 20 cartridges can be used, which also fit the P226. For private sales in the USA, the magazine capacity was limited to 10 cartridges at times.
In the United States, the P228 is supplied as the M11-A1 with only 15 rounds and in “Double-Action / Single-Action” trigger mode. With the same length, however, the weight is 907 grams. The M11 is also available as a “tactical version” with an extended barrel to accommodate a silencer.
The P228 has been produced since 1988, continuously improved and offered in different designs / colors. The length of the barrel, which is 3.9 inches, is identical in all versions. One of the variants is described under the report by SIG Sauer P228 Two-Tone.
