‧‧‧ One of 810Grace Jones transitioned into new wave music with the 1980 release of Warm Leatherette. The album included covers of songs by The Normal, The Pretenders, Roxy Music, Smokey Robinson, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Jacques Higelin .
Tom Petty wrote the lyrics to Breakdown, and he also wrote the third verse of Jones’ reinterpretation. Originally, Pull Up to the Bumper was to be included on the album, but its R&B sound did not fit with the rest of the material. Grace Jones had begun collaborating in 1981 with photographer and graphic designer Jean-Paul Goude, with whom she also had a relationship.

Grace Jones states she was never married to music producer Christopher “Chris” Stanley (who produced her 1989 album “Bulletproof Heart”), although they were in a relationship for a few years, between 1989 and 1991. She has only married once on 24 February 1996, to Atila Altaunbay, a Turkish Muslim, born in 1976, when he was only 20 years old, making him 28 years younger than her, and although they separated after a few years in 2004, they are still legally married.

Grace Jones
Work all day, as men who know,
Wheels must turn to keep, to keep the flow,
Build on up, don’t break the chain,
Sparks will fly, when the whistle blows,
Never stop the action,
Keep it up, keep it up,
Axe to wood, in ancient time,
Man machine, power line,
Fires burn, heart beats strong,
Sing out loud, the chain gang song,
Never stop the action,
Keep it up, keep it up,
Breath to the rhythm,
Dance to the rhythm,
Work to the rhythm,
Live to the rhythm,
Love to the rhythm,
Slave to the rhythm.
