The Diamond Chair consists of a welded metal basket that is polished, matt chrome-plated or manufactured with a Rilsan coating in various colours.

The various upholstery fabrics are stretched over the wire basket and, like the actual seat cushion, secured to the metal mesh with small hooks. Bertoia himself said of his Diamond Chairs: ‘They are mainly made of air, like sculpture. Space passes right through them.’

In addition to the Diamond Chair (armchair), Bertoia also designed an Asymmetric Chaise (asymmetrical lounger), Barstool (bar stool), the Child’s Diamond Chair (children’s armchair), High Back Chair and Ottoman (high-back chair with stool), Side chair ( Chair), Small Diamond Chair (Small Armchair) and the matching Slatted Wooden Bench (wooden slatted bench).

Designing often necessitates considering the aesthetic, functional, economic and sociopolitical dimensions of the design object & design process.
