Braun’s German-made products first came here in the late 1950s, when virtually all American-made products were being shaped into dynamic, colorful celebrations of consumption. Braun’s radios, mixers, clocks, and electric razors rejected mass tastes: Instead of a Mixmaster that looked like an outboard motor, Braun offered a “kitchen machine,” a piece of white sculpture.

Dieter Rams is an industrial designer closely associated with the consumer products company Braun and the Functionalist school of industrial design. His unobtrusive approach and belief in "less but better" design generated a timeless quality.
