Add your latest twitter stream without a wordpress plugin or Twitter js script, just by using the native WordPress RSS functions file.
Replace fetch_rss(’http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/1487781.rss’) with your Twitter RSS Feed instead of mine, usually at the bottom of your Twitter page, then check this line $rss->items, 0, 1, where 1 indicates the Twitter messages to show up, replace it with four, then four of your latest messages will show up.

Lately many sites were designed with a wooden background and grunge style,
I’ve played with PS to create a similar look and feel for a WordPress powered site with the PassWord theme, featuring a three column fixed layout,
enabled with flickr support, pagenavi support, related posts and recent comments are built into the theme (requires NO plugin).

Style switching with WordPress themes is very easy with a js file, a second stylesheet and some new images.
It’s not restricted to link colours only, the possibilities are even: a complete different layout can be achieved too.
Of course the basic id’s and classes has to be used: the core php files (e.g. single.php) remains the same,
just apply a new style to the id’s, see the example:

Toggle Stylesheets:
#000 | #fff

Spotted the difference?

What you need:

Download this js file

Upload the style swich file to your themes js folder

Copy your basic theme stylesheet and rename it to style2
Insert the js call in your header:
< script src = " < ? php bloginfo ( ' stylesheet _ directory ' ) ; ? / js / style-switch . js " type = " text / javascript " > < / script >
REMOVE THE SPACES

Insert the two stylesheet calls in your header:

Note the difference between the title “default” for your basic stylesheet and the second title “style2″.
Vary your basic stylesheet by applying new rules to the id’s and classes.

Upload new images to your themes image folder (if needed)
Insert the script call at an appropriate place:

Easy socializing for WordPress themes:
there is no need to upload a sociable plugin with the use of the beneath files = less loading time, less databse junk,
just follow the instructions here or read the README file, as it contains a few steps to match your current theme.

How to install:

1. Unpack this archive on your HD.
2. Open it and look for the style.css and social.php.
3. Adjust the css your current theme
e.g. background colors, font colors and so on in styles.css.
4. Adjust the image call som it compliments your current theme
e.g. path to your image folder : url ( images/digg.gif ) or url ( img/digg.gif ) and so on to match your current theme.
5. Upload the social template to your current themes folder, the images to the themes image folder.
6. Open your home.php, index.php and single.php, where you want to place the php call.
Best place to integrate would be after the tags call under each wp post call.

with this php call:

< ? php include ( TEMPLATEPATH. " / social.php " ) ; ? >

7. REMOVE THE SPACES BEFORE PLACING IT
8. Cut and paste the css into your themes stylesheet.
9. You’re done, have fun.

Customization:

The BlogTimes WordPress theme is based on the NewYorker theme, which was featured at the fairly popular Mashable.

While the NewYorker theme was inspired by the classy look of the NewYorker Online magazine, BlogTimes is inspired by the NewYork Times. Too much? Well, I don’t think so, as BT is fully featured and FREE.

Who said premium?

The BlogTimes WordPress theme is enabled for multi authors, each author has its own page and RSS Feed, also the frontpage login is enabled.

Mobile WordPress

Can a WordPress theme be accessible on a cell phone, PDA or iPhone? Well, yes, the WP Journal with a fluid layout without using any plugins, additional stylesheets or hacks.

How to test it: Get the latest version of Opera, open Shop, select from the view tab “small screen”, voila, there you have it.

Everything renders very fine, even the flash gallery is accessible, all done via a fluid layout.
Test it on a Sony or Nokia.
All done with NO additional stylesheet, just a fluid layout and some CSS tweaks.

Winter theme

It’s winter time now, a little adjustment on the milo theme:
added some white background to the header and footer, freshed up the logo, the projects page,
the flash gallery and added a new flash gallery to the post template.

Still to do are some minor tweaks for IE 6+7, the beloved crappy browsers.

Magazine layout

Just finished the retouching works on Reinar’s site: F1 Racing using WordPress and some custom extensions (e.g. counter, flv player, dropdown navi ) to suit a perfect CMS system.

While here, check this site Synide net, using one of my themes (Soho) fully converted as an online magazine. And last weekend the WordPress themes reached 250,000 downloads…

Another real good and new magazine layout is the japanese TagHeuer site.
Also Jung von Matt, a fairly wellknown german PR/advertising agency uses WordPress now as a CMS system for their blog and main site.

It’s a pretty interesting tutorial about converting Django to a full CMS system much alike WordPress, unfortunately it looks like the tutorial is not finished yet, but with the starting points and some knowledge about Django should be farely easy to fllow the steps.

Fun while others are now jumping on the bandwagon and are working on a magazine WordPress theme style, I’ve created the NewYorker magazine theme as an online newspaper in March…

Built in is a nifty drop down menu: shows different pages and posts as well as archives or news items. The menu items are accessible on hover in a second bar. I’ve added a tabbed column with its own menu and content on the homepage. The post dates are especially formatted to draw more attention to each post, as well as stylish newspaper style icons. Currently the demo page shows a movie via a built in flv player (not included), but it’s easy to set up a fflash gallery or similar.

The WordPress themeviewer is momentary offline for updates, so I’ve set up a simple themeviewer, please use the theme switcher to access other themes.

Ahh. but that’s not the point, Peety has a new layout, anyone who says he can see through women is missing a lot, but back to Peety’s outfit: three column fluid/fixed layout in stylish black and white inspired by Groucho….

Plain white magazine WordPress theme styled as an online newspaper:

LumoZero 3.17 WordPress Theme with a fluid four column outfit. Three widgetized sidebars as well as the footer (five columns) with typical WordPress action like calendar, built in are recent comments and related post in the themes functions php, flickr support is featured too in its own sidebar. The frontpage shows the four latest posts asigned by category. Additional five columns footer for your needs: e.g. ads, video section.

Built in is a nifty flashclock, which shows different timezones from cities all over the world: changes every thirty seconds.
Each post features an additional dropdown menu with all available archives (by year, by category, by post) featured. The menu is accessible via little icons.

The WordPress themeviewer is momentary offline for updates, so I’ve set up a simple themeviewer, please use the theme switcher to access other themes.

With over hundred WordPress themes made available for free, I thought of launching a site entirely for the free themes.

Partly because this site is focused more on showcasing my design than on WordPress, partly of the postings, which are more art related than other.
Anyway, I think it’s nearly the time to get the special magazine theme running, which is entirely created for this approach. Around wendnesday should be online. More to come…

Thought of launching a themeviewer too, but couldn’t found any scripts or similar. Know any?

the following themes are updated and (should) work now with WordPress version 2.3.,
the page navi call did cause the break in the layout.

Black and white three column layout with an interesting home page view: Ines 3.17 WordPress Theme with a fixed three column outfit, the sidebar is widgetized with typical WP action like calendar, built in are recent comments/trackbacks, related post and breadcrumb in the themes functions php. First sidebar shows excerpts of the lates posts, second sidebar shows the recent flickr stream, just use your flickr ID to change it.

The official WordPress themeviewer is still offline, so I’ve set up a simple themeviewer, please use the theme switcher to access other themes.

Header shows the WP page menu, the recent posts and the categories (up to eight),
however this might not be the right layout if more than eight categories are on your WP powered site: it will scramble the header totally.
All in all big variety and easy to customize. Please read the README file for instructions.

UPDATED VERSION FOR WP VERSION 2.3.

Slick and stylish three column layout: GStyles 3.17 WordPress Theme with a fixed three column outfit, the sidebars AND the footer are widgetized with typical WP action like calendar, built in are recent comments, related post, breadcrumb and UTW support in the themes functions php, sidebar links are showing some nifty little icons.

To asign the best look for your frontpage, please set your WordPress installation to show only one post at the enty, edit your welcome message with a link to your about page, also you can edit the about column in the right sidebar. The theme has more options, like the recent comment/trackbacks or the search everything feature: edit from the admin dashboard.

All in all big variety and easy to customize. Please read the README file for instructions.
