Mount Fuji architecture was realized by crossing two rectangular parallelepipeds at very right angles. The lower one contains private rooms and bathroom, and sticks half of the body out to existing narrow level ground.

The upper one incorporates salon and kitchen, and lies astride the lower one and the mountain ridge. It almost seems like an off-centered cross pinned carefully on natural terrain.

Hyperreal paintings by Adam Stenne.

Pinned to a wall of Stennett’s studio is an excerpt from the report of another study–it dryly notes how substances that ordinarily provoke nothing more than dizziness can, when aligned with the ideology and expectations of a particular individual, just as well lead to states of profound euphoria.
To Stennett this is a metaphor for the peculiar alchemy by which art transforms images and objects into devices for the expansion of consciousness.

Adam Stennett in Conversation with Will Cotton

Adam Stenne

I had a painting professor who used to walk into the studio, peer into a painting I was working on, rub his chin and say wryly “Stennett, have you found the solution?” At the time I wasn’t sure if he was just fucking with me. Fifteen years later I keep coming back to a related idea—that art-making is simply setting up a problem and finding a solution. Some problems are more compelling and some solutions are more effective. Did you have any moments like this where a light went on for you?

All is quiet on new year’s day,
A world in white gets underway,
And I want to be with you,
Be with you night and day.
Nothing changes on new year’s day.
I will be with you again.
I will be with you again.

A crowd has gathered in black and white.
Arms entwined, the chosen few,
Newspapers say, it says it’s true.
And we can break through,
Though torn in two we can be one.
I will begin again, I will begin again.
Oh and maybe the time is right,
Oh maybe tonight.
I will be with you again.
I will be with you again.
And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage.
Though I want to be with you,
To be with you night and day.

I’ve started the revision of <s>Insomnia</s> a while ago, due to clients work I’ve had to make a break, this way I want to say a BIG thank you to all my clients: you are great!

Last night I’ve had to code some mapping and tweaking of a database, Over worked and exhausted, couldn’t sleep, so I finished the coding for the mockup, here is the first psd, I’ve created another mockup for the single page view, have still to tweak some bugs and validate it, but I’m very pleased with the finish, as I could establish almost everything, what I wanted like the projects slider in the footer as well as a good functions php, therefore less plugins to work with:

Why not a fixed layout of 1024 pixels? Why should I? Ever checked a 900 px wide site on a 24” screen?

delicious player

hover titles

exec plugin

related post / tag cloud

search everything

recent comments

breadcrumb

options panel

That’s seven plugins less, but I have to check for updates to keep the theme compatible for new WP releases.
Anyway, I prefer the new outfit for Insomnia to the current one for milo, maybe a switch? Of course it’s a fluid layout with max width enabled to break long lines of text, four different layouts enabled via the template files for the frontpage, the gallery, pages, single posts and the sitemap.

The listing is 250 euros in Munich, but online are the books available for less. Julius Shulman, the considered ultimate photographer of Modern architecture, is an inspiring artist defining the image of the modern life of the last fifty years through his elegant depictions of spare with luxurious style.

For the last volume, Modernism Rediscovered, Shulman opened his vast archive to cull over 500 photos, many of them unpublished, of houses, office buildings, and other structures by talented but lesser-known and forgotten architects.

I believe it’s the illustrator’s job now to show how exciting and powerful illustration can be, to show the possibilities outside of the regular boundaries of what people would think it can do.

Sometimes it’s conflictive, sometimes contemplative, my illustrations attempts to reflect the interactions of people: illustrating what makes us violent or passive, still or in motion, beautiful or ugly.

Those who have influenced me the most have done so because of their simplicity and directness in terms of graphic elements, and their ability to communicate an idea quickly and effeciently. They are composed of elements which have no connections at first sight, but bang together on the paper. It’s up to the spectator to build the story told by the illustration.

The illustrations shows my sight of <a title="New York's borders touch (clockwise from the north) two Great Lakes (Erie and Ontario, which are connected by the Niagara River); one former Great Lake (Lake Champlain); the provinces of Ontario and Quebec in Canada; three New England states (Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut); the Atlantic Ocean, and two Mid-Atlantic states (New Jersey and Pennsylvania). Hard Boiled Story:
The book is Miller’s very loose interpretation of Philip K. Dick’s The Electric Ant, but tinged with Miller’s brand of satire and violence. The somewhat minimal plot revolves round a tax collector who discovers he is a robot and sets out to find answers. This story essentially provides a showcase for Darrow’s incredibly intricate artwork. Miller’s usual trademark of dark, emotionally complex characters in pathos is still slightly present but takes a back seat to the gory splash pages. One of the series’ oddest aspects is that nearly all blood is inked in black, perhaps to reduce the shock of the violence.

More: Hard Boiled by John Woo.

Lewis Cane was once a hero; under the nickname Caneton he was an SOE operative in the French resistance.

The journey is partly about Caneton showing that he is still competent in this kind of work, but more interestingly also about him coming to terms not just with his own history but with the realisation that the past is past and that this is no longer what he does. It makes the novel more than a run of the mill thriller, as Lyall examines a side of “the hero” not so commonly part of the genre – what happens when the time for heroism is past. Cane is a contrast to the other man accompanying the party across France: an alcoholic bodyguard unable to cope psychologically with the work that he is supremely gifted in – another interesting character.

Midnight plus one is an excellent book by Gavin Lyall.

One of the most inspiring artwork (for me) is the art of Frida Kahlo.
Amazing and inspiring women, after her accident, she turned her attention away from the study of medicine to begin a full-time painting career. Drawing on personal experiences including her troubled marriage, her painful miscarriages, and her numerous operations, Kahlo’s works are often characterized by their stark–and sometimes shocking–portrayals of pain.

Despite her life of suffering and pain, Frida Kahlo was a vibrant, loose extroverted character whose everyday speech was filled with profanities. She had been a tomboy in her youth and carried her fervor throughout her life. She was a heavy smoker, drank liquor (especially tequila) in excess, was openly bisexual, sang off-color songs, and told equally ribald jokes to the guests of the wild parties that she hosted.
