Erotica

{ on Nov 29 }

What exactly is Erotica? Sex? Romance like Madonna in her Erotica song performed?
Or does the wiki explains it the right way:

Erotica (from the Greek language Eros - “love”) — are works of art, including literature, photography, film, sculpture and painting, that deal substantively with erotically stimulating or arousing descriptions. Erotica is rather a modern word used to describe the portrayal of human sensuality and sexuality with high-art aspirations, differentiating such work from commercial pornography. Erotica portraying homosexual people are referred to as homoerotic.

Erotica
Yahoo shows 18,900.000 pages, Google another 27,500.000 hits for the term Erotica, but G shows some defintions too:
- A tastefully written sexual story - the difference between this and a PWP lays in the style of writing and language, but the line can be thin.
- Pornography: creative activity (writing or pictures or films etc.) of no literary or artistic value other than to stimulate sexual desire

This defintion seems to catch the point:

Tasteful fan fiction which involves characters in sexual situations. The difference between erotic and outright pornography is mainly in the intent of both writer and reader. The line between erotica and pornography is a fine one and easily blurred. However, all fictions here at Expressions are considered, at least by the owner of the list, to be erotica and not pornography.

    That thin line depends a lot on taste. What some would consider erotic some would see as porn. But cannot porn be erotic? I’d suggest that this is too much of a subjective issue for anyone to ever arrive at a definitive definition.
