Redesign

Recently Problogger and John Chow, two of the so-called top bloggers redesigned their online presence. While the comments on both redesigns were mixed between total failure and best work, I tend to classify both designs as failures, considering the first impression.
Some reasons:

The question is: whose idea was it to redesign these sites with the look and feel of a Nascar?

- The first impression of Darren’s online home: I’ve landed on a spam site, blinking and various colours everywhere
- In fact, his logo is buried under the first ads, is that a good sign?
- The featured post, which is most important one according to the term “featured”, looks more like an Adsense campaign, good sign?

- The first impression of Chow’s online home: I’ve landed on a spam site, even more blinking and various colours everywhere
- logo? There is no logo, is this a money-making brand or a link farm?
- The first three blocks are filled with ads with very little info about recent posts (actual content), is this the way to represent your online presence?
