Researchers of Symantec observed the first “Drive by Pharming” activities with serious widespread implications and affects many millions of users worldwide.
The aggressor manipulates the DNS positions of the installed home router, by pointing victims to falsified web pages instead of the real web page.
Drive by the Pharming is already sufficient, if the victim sights the malicious HTML or Javascript code of the aggressor, by surfing on a Website or it can be even be embedded into a E-Mail. The harming code reads the DNS positions (Domain Name System) in the domestic broadband-router, then changes the default settings in such a way that all DNS inquiries are handled in the future by the DNS server of the aggressor.
In this way the hacker can control the InterNet connections of the victim.
